Vicks V4500 FilterFree Humidifier Review

I am suprised by all the negative reviews. We bought 1 for my oldest daughter last year (end 2006) as she had croup and it worked just fine. A few months ago my youngest daughter had also a cold and cough at the same time as my oldest so we went back to buy a second one.

We don't have mold issues (even though very often if it is not in use we forget to take the water out...and to take the water out is recommended)

It makes the room humid enough (windows are wet the next morning) the best thing for cold/coughing instead of dry air.

Yes it makes quit a lot of noise when it is running but it doesn't cause a problem for my 2 girls to feel or stay in sleep.

And yes we had the first time we used also the waterproblem as we didn't put it back right. But after that never had a problem again...

They are both still working!

I bought the Crane Penguin humidifier about 2 months ago. The filter arrived about a week later. My experience applies to people using HARD TAP WATER. So far I've found that, although the filter helped with keeping the humidifier a bit cleaner (I clean it once a week with diluted bleach for the tank and vinegar for the base), it only seemed to work to reduce white dust (from hard water minerals) for just over a month, using the humidifier at a low or medium setting. I'm considering using distilled water instead - it might work out cheaper than having to replace the filter every couple of months. I would definitely advise to keep the original cap for the tank and try the humidifier with and without filter.

Personal Air Cleaner Hygia 4.0 Desktop Air Purifiers Review

I think germ guardian makes some very good products.I own a few of their plug in GG-1000 UV germ/odor killers and I like them.I got this unit because it had actual particle filtration and carbon filtration for odor removal.It looks like a great all in one package from a company that is making a decent name for themselves thus far in the all too marketing based field of air purification.

This unit is SMALL, and I mean small..8" x 6" x 3.5"It has a TINY air filter with a terribly high price tag to replace.For comparison, many other units which are large and have excellent consumer ratings cost less to replace the filter.The internal UV light is non-replaceable and the company makes no claim towards its longevity.It seems unlikely the light will last more than a few months.

The unit functioned well for a few days but after that its tiny filter became so clogged it barely output any air.The unit is not very quiet like the GG-1000 units when on high speed.Air output on low speed is negligible.In my opinion the unit would be adequate to purify the air volume of a car not a room.

I have owned the unit less than 2 weeks and I just purchased a 3M FAP02-RS to replace it.Hopefully I can take it back to big box mart with the replacement filter I already bought for it.There is no way I will change a filter out every two weeks just to keep it running correctly.Perhaps this is my fault, the size alone of this unit suggests its inability to handle a small bedroom.I had my doubts but I liked the GG-1000s.

Looking at the product description here, it says the filter is washable.Uhm..it is made out of paper and NOTHING in the documentation (or common sense) suggests washing it.This "Photo-Catalytic Oxidation" is not mentioned anywhere on the product or the parent website.A little excess marketing for the local crowd I guess.In my opinion, its a small fan, a paper filter, and a cheap unreplaceable (magic) light bulb in a unit about the same size as my external hard drive.How much affect do you really think that will have?

It's called a table top air purifier with no real mention of how much it can really handle.I think calling it a dashboard air purifier might be more appropriate.It works a little bit but it truly fell short of my expectations and I doubt I will even waste the electricity on it much longer.You can get a good purifier with a much higher capacity in this price range.

On a final note, UV-C light kills germs at a slow/moderate pace.As I understand it, the air must be in contact with the light for some period of time before it will become effective at killing the bad stuff.A air filter must move large quantities of air through a filter to be effective at physical removal of contaminants.This unit tries to do both and I feel like it is a miss at least for mechanical filtration.

I agree with other reviewers that the Honeywell is relatively noisy (white noise -- like a window air conditioner) but it does the job.My main complaint about the entire system (not the filters per se) is that there is no alert to tell you that you ought to replace the filter.I tend to be fairly busy, and the first I noticed that the filter was no longer working properly was when the area near it started accumulating a very fine dust.The Honeywell was still filtering larger particles, but it was actually polluting my living room with the very fine stuff.So of course I replaced the filter.I probably should pay closer attention, but some sort of sensor would be very useful to prevent what I experienced... which was actually the opposite of what a HEPA filter does.In the absence of a sensor, just be alert to the fact that a "lifetime" filter is actually good for about a year.Put it on your calendar and don't take it as much for granted as I did.BTW, this filter DOES fit the 52500 model, even though the specs on line don't say so.

Honeywell HRF-14 Pure HEPA Permanent Replacement Filter Review

I got 2 of these to use with my Hooneywell enviracaire 11520 the other day and they work great! It is awesome since they're less than 1/2 the price of the 21500 (and the 22500 I was using this for the 17400), so though I was buying the 2 HRF-14s to replace one 21500 HEPA filter, I still saved about 10 bucks!

HRF-14 is Honeywell's new Universal replacement true HEPA filter. The box contains one true HEPA fileter and one foam gasket (I just throw this away since it isn't needed for the 11520). The chart on the insert indicates that it fits the following models of air purifiers (number of filters required follows model number): 11520 (2), 12520 (2), 13520 (3), 17200 (2), 18159 (2), 17400 (2), 50150 (2), 50200 (2), 50250 (3), 50300 (4), 50310 (4). Some of these setups also use the included foam gaskets to pad the filters to the right size, (but you never need more gaskets than filters so you don't need to worry about that when purchasing).

Useage is really easy. you stack them up, putting the gasket(s) on top as needed, wrap them with the prefilters just as you do with the old filters. Then you close up the air purifier and are breathing clean air once again!

Replacement policy is the same as it was for the non-universal filters... The HEPA filter should remain effective 3-5 years for light usage, 2-3 years for normal and 1 year for heavy usage.

A sneezy friend of mine got a HEPA air filter for his bedroom and said bullishly, "It changed my life!" So I bought a Honeywell HEPA air filter for my sneezy wife (along with allergy dust covers for pillows, mattesses, etc).

In the big picture I don't think any lives were changed, but this is certainly a resaonably well made and cost effective HEPA air filter, suitable for getting all kinds of small particulate airborne gunk out of your airsteam. We were both relieved to find that my sneezy wife was not allergic to her new husband, but only to his futon. But that's another story.

If you or one you love is sneezy at night, an air filter like this might just make you all really happy. And the filter makes a pleasant swooshing sound that may in time come to remind you of wind or waves. Turn it on high 20 min before bedtime and then switch it to low when you actually hit the sack. Low is much quieter.

Frigidaire FAD504TDD 50-Pint Dehumidifier, White Review

I was a little hesitant buying this dehumidifier without any reviews on Amazon, but last year's model was highly-regarded so I figured there wasn't too much of a risk. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Pros:
- Looks great... I know it's a dehumidifier, but it doesn't hurt that it actually isn't hideous
- Really sucks moisture out of the air
- Good energy efficiency
- Multitude of options on how to run (timer on/off, humidity level, continuous operation)
- Auto-restart after power failure

Cons:
- Not the quietest dehumidifier. I've noticed with mine that it tends to start off pretty noisy and level out after about 30 minutes
- No adjustment to the vent airflow is possible, it would be nice if you could direction it up/down/left/right, but this isn't a major issue

Overall impression:
Some reviewers of the last model had difficulty removing the bucket -- mine has posed no problems. I believe that they didn't read the instructions, which clearly say to squeeze in the sides of the bucket gently in order to remove. For those who, like me, have to deal with ridiculously high electricity costs you'll be happy to know that it's a quite efficient model for its size. This dehumidifier reads out around 530 watts on my Kill-a-Watt (measured after it's had time to settle for about 15 minutes. I've noticed it tends to spike when you turn it on, then decrease rapidly, then slowly rise up to about the measured amount).

I cannot comment on its durability, but will provide an update in the future.

I would not suggest purchasing this product. It has been a headache since the day we received it. This product is noisy and very heavy and has trouble staying in the outlet (any outlet) without another plug beneath it holding it in. In addition, within days of plugging it in, we started getting loud grinding noises. After contacting customer service, we were refused our money back and instead given a replacement purifier. The replacement has not been any different than the original. At the time of this purchase, we also purchased a "Honeywell HFD-120 Tower HEPA Air Purifier with Permanent IFD Filter, Black" from Amazon for a different room. I would highly recommend that you spend a little more money and get this one - its fantastic! We could not be more happy with the Honeywell. Aranizer SS-4X Review

I have had the SS-3X model of this series for almost 4 years. I bought it as a solution to kill mold, as the promotional material indicated the unit could penetrate through walls and kill mold at the source. It works! A very effective solution. I run my unit 24X7 as it helps clean the air in many ways. The trick is to buy a unit sized to the space you are treating.

After these 4 years or so my SS-3X has lost some its power and I will be upgrading to the NS series, as they are touted to last longer. I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Honeywell recommends that the pre-filters be changed every 3 months, but I've found if I vacuum them at least once a month, I can keep them longer. I really like my HEPA filters because they remove so much dust and pet hair from the air.

Aireox Professional Air Purifier Review

I've had my Aireox 45 for 5 years and I love it. It works so well that friends with cat allergies can spend time in my apartment with no problems. The filters are not too expensive, since you only replace once a year and it is a medical grade air cleaner, not like the ionic breeze or other such phoney unit. I recommend it!

Hunter QuietFlo, Replacement True Hepa Filter Pack, Model 30938 1 ea Review

Had an old Hunter HEPA filter (> 5 years old) that needed the 30938 and they weren't sold in stores.Low and behold, Amazon had it from a 3rd party company and it was fulfilled by Amazon.Nothing special about the filter, just removed the old one and replaced it; also it came in retail packaging and definitely was new since my old filter wasn't as white.More like dirty gray.Perhaps it was because I hadn't replaced it in 2 years...

This unit is very quite and cools a rather large den (40 X 20) w/o overworking the unit. The unit has many functions including a money saving mode & a quite mode. I can place the unit in both money saving & quite mode and it cools the room efficiently when the outside temperture is > 90 degrees. I have had this unit for 1-year now w/o any problems.

I feel that the IQAir HEPA filters saved my life.Had chronic bronchitis in 2008 that would not go away.The doctor that released me from the hospital suggested that I get a HEPA filter (said that a Sharper Image type air filter would make me worse due to the ozone it creates).Searched on line and found the IQAir and all of the great reviews, bought two (1 for each level of our townhouse) and love them.I can tell as soon as I walk into the house the difference that they make.This is the second set of pre-filters I've replaced, the HEPA filters are still going strong.If you have asthma (which is what i have) or bad allergies, I would highly recommend an IQAir HEPA filter and you can't go wrong with Amazon.com and their great service!

Austin Air Purifier Plus (Superblend) Review

Austin Air Plus and the Superblend - running everyday for two years, three years and beyond in several different homes (we own 6 units)and they work. This unit is not whisper quiet but on low it will remind you of white noise piped in at your office and is not bad. Medium and High fan speeds will move the air and can clear a sudden problem. These units have been effective in negating carpets that have had too much cleaning with that dry powder,chem-dry type of carpet cleaner that never comes all the way out of the carpet and later on causes the "lung slime" problems. They offset the dust and pollen blowing in from the road and storms and seasonal build-ups, they stop the stink of the dog and the cat box, they eliminate that stinky feet smell from an old bedroom and catch the cloud of insecticide that the neighbor's pest control man hoses around the yard. Any wonder these units were at ground-zero? Heavy use of the unit may result in need for replacement filters - which although they should last 5-years - sometime only go 1 or 2-years before they start blowing a funky smell (my sign it's time to change). Replacement filters are expensive at $200 to $250, representing half the cost of new unit. The switches on a few units that had lots of back and forth switching have stopped working properly but can be sent in for warranty work. Steel case and casters is a plus for this heavyweight.
